Quarterlife is a budgeting and information tool, not a bank, broker-dealer, or registered financial, investment, legal, tax, or insurance advisor, and nothing in the Service is personalized financial, investment, legal, tax, or insurance advice. See our Terms of Service for the full disclaimer.

This Privacy Policy explains how Quarterlife, Inc. ("Quarterlife," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use our website, web application, and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information you provide directly

Account information: name, email address, password, and similar registration details.
Profile and goal information: information you enter about your income, expenses, savings goals, job search or benefits status, and similar self-reported details used to personalize budgeting tools, Reality Check, and Quin.
Communications: messages you send us (e.g., support requests) and messages you exchange with Quin, our AI guide.
Payment information: billing details processed by our payment processor, Stripe, Inc. (see Section 3).

1.2 Information from linked financial accounts (via Plaid)
If you choose to connect a bank or financial account, we use Plaid, Inc. ("Plaid") to facilitate that connection. Plaid may collect and share with us information such as account balances, transaction history, and account identifiers, based on the permissions you grant during the linking process. We do not receive or store your bank login credentials — those are entered directly with Plaid or your financial institution. You can disconnect a linked account at any time in your account settings.

1.3 Information collected automatically

Usage data: pages and features you access, actions you take within the Service, timestamps, and similar interaction data.
Device and log data: IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, and referring URLs.
Cookies and similar technologies: see Section 8 below.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including budgeting tools, Reality Check, and Quin;
Personalize the content, scores, and guidance shown to you based on your financial data and goals;
Process subscription payments and manage your account;
Communicate with you about the Service, including updates, security alerts, and support;
Monitor, secure, and improve the Service, including diagnosing technical issues;
Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your linked financial data with third parties for their own advertising or marketing purposes, and we do not use it to "share" your information for cross-context behavioral advertising as that term is defined under state privacy law.

3. How Information Is Shared

We share information only in the following circumstances:

Service providers who process data on our behalf, including: Plaid, Inc. (bank account linking); Stripe, Inc. (payment processing); Anthropic, PBC (Claude API, which powers Quin's AI-generated responses); Supabase (hosting and database infrastructure); and our email/communications provider (account and support messages). These providers are contractually restricted from using your information for purposes other than providing services to us.
Legal and safety reasons: to comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests from public authorities, or protect the rights, property, or safety of Quarterlife, our users, or others.
Business transfers: if Quarterlife is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy or a successor policy.
With your consent: for any other purpose disclosed to you at the time you provide the information.

3.1 AI Processing
When you interact with Quin, relevant account and financial context you've provided (such as budget, transaction, insurance, or job/benefits information) may be sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a response. This processing is used solely to generate your in-app guidance and is subject to Anthropic's own data handling commitments for API customers. Quin's responses are AI-generated and may not always be accurate — see our Terms of Service for more detail.

4. Data Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls limiting who at Quarterlife can view your data. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information from our active systems within 30 days, except for information we are required to retain by law (for example, for tax, accounting, or fraud-prevention purposes).

6. Your Privacy Rights

You can exercise many rights directly in your account settings, including disconnecting linked accounts, updating your profile, exporting your data, and deleting your account. For any other request, contact us at support@quarterlife.io. Depending on where you live, you may also have some or all of the following rights:

Right to know / access: request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we've collected about you, the sources, and the purposes for collecting it.
Right to delete: request deletion of personal information we've collected from you, subject to certain legal exceptions.
Right to correct: request correction of inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
Right to data portability: request a copy of your personal information in a portable, commonly used format.
Right to opt out of sale/sharing or targeted advertising: as noted above, we do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of today — if that ever changes, we will update this Policy and provide an opt-out mechanism first.
Right to non-discrimination: we will not deny you the Service, charge you a different price, or provide a different level of service because you exercised a privacy right.

These rights are available to residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws currently in effect, including California (CCPA/CPRA), Colorado (CPA), Connecticut (CTDPA), Virginia (VCDPA), and a growing number of other states; the exact scope of each right can vary by state. You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf by providing us with your written, signed permission. We will need to verify your identity before completing certain requests. If we decline to act on your request, residents of some states (including Colorado, Connecticut, and Virginia) have the right to appeal that decision by contacting us at support@quarterlife.io.

We aim to respond to privacy requests within 45 days, or as otherwise required by applicable law.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from, anyone under the age of 18. This is a broader restriction than required under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which applies to children under 13; we apply our own 18-and-over policy to keep the Service simple and consistent. If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone under 18, we will delete it. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact us at support@quarterlife.io.

8. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Our website and web application use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

Strictly necessary cookies: required for core functionality, such as keeping you logged in and maintaining session security.
Analytics/performance cookies: help us understand how the Service is used so we can improve it.
Functionality cookies: remember your preferences and settings between visits.

You can control cookies through your browser settings, though blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent parts of the Service from working. We do not use cookies for third-party advertising or retargeting.

9. International Users

The Service is intended for use by residents of the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.

10. Accessibility

If a disability prevents or restricts you from accessing this Privacy Policy, you may request a copy in an alternative format by contacting support@quarterlife.io.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice (for example, by email or an in-app notice) before the changes take effect. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this Policy indicates when it was last revised.
